Identified by its desirable 138 VIN, this is a true factory Super Sport finished in its correct and timeless color combination of Code R-R Regal Red over the very desirable Code 797 Ivory bucket-seat interior.

This Chevelle received a restoration that has been well preserved and continues to show extremely well today. The body presents beautifully, with impressive panel fit, finish, and overall condition. The Regal Red exterior is complemented perfectly by the contrasting Ivory interior, creating one of the sharpest and most recognizable color combinations available in 1966. Period-style redline tires complete its authentic muscle-car appearance.

Under the hood is what is believed to be the period correct 396 cubic-inch, 360 horsepower Turbo-Jet big-block V8. The engine block was decked when it was rebuilt, so its original stamping is no longer present, and its numbers-matching status cannot be confirmed. It is paired with a highly desirable Muncie M-21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission, a heavy-duty clutch, and a 12-bolt Posi traction rear end with a highway-friendly 3.31 axle ratio.

Inside, the Code 797 Ivory bucket-seat interior is a major highlight. The cabin features a center console, floor-mounted four-speed shifter, tinted glass, and the iconic knee-knocker tachometer. Power steering and vacuum-assisted power brakes make the car considerably more enjoyable to operate, while the upgraded suspension, Posi traction rear end, and dual exhaust provide the performance character expected from a true Chevelle SS.

This Chevelle was sold new at Thomas Chevrolet Inc. in Gary, Indiana. It is accompanied by a copy of what the previous owner believed to be the original window sticker. That document lists many of the car’s desirable features, including the 360-horsepower Turbo-Jet engine, four-speed transmission, Posi traction rear axle, power brakes, power steering, heavy-duty clutch, upgraded suspension, tinted glass, dual exhaust, bumper guards, and tachometer.
